What do I bring, wear and say?

Checked 15 Oct 2026the Criminal Justice Act 1984, Bail Act 1997, Courts (No. 3) Act 1986 and the District Court Rules.

Choose your matter, where you are in the process and who speaks for you, and the tool lists what to bring in four groups (documents, money, people, on the day), tells you how the sitting runs from the court's own procedure, and writes a character reference template for the person who will vouch for you, in their words and never about the facts. Tick it off, print it, and keep it with the papers.

The checklist is a list, not the court's own. It does not say what the judge asks for, does not plead, and the reference template never describes what happened: the referee fills it in, signs it and dates it.
